Ideas N Conversations shares the griefs of all families, who lost their children and family member. The void of their absence cannot be filled forever.

"So our hearts are broken today -- for the parents and grandparents, sisters and brothers of these little children, and for the families of the adults who were lost.  Our hearts are broken for the parents of the survivors as well, for as blessed as they are to have their children home tonight, they know that their children’s innocence has been torn away from them too early, and there are no words that will ease their pain." -said  President Obama

Conversational Communication Challenges Can Be Resolved with Bold Decision

"Many hear the sounds of enunciated words and phrases influenced heavily by the mother tongue instead of listening to the meaningful essence of what is being communicated." - Terrenal

Here is a personal question for yourself.

Is any of the following illustrated my inabilities, deficiencies or frustrations today or may be in the past?
  • I have poor verbal and written communication skills
  • Inability to articulate myself to my peers at work and outside work because I do not speak the English language well
  • I am a Team Leader but has issues in communicating verbally and effectively with my team members
  • I cannot advanced myself in my career as I felt my communication skills are not proficient
  • I lack leadership skills and wanted to accomplish more results
  • I always find myself below par when engaged in conversational topics with friends
  • I have been to numerous interviews but cannot land the job due to my communication skills and conversational inabilities
  • When explaining something to others I was always searching for the right words or phrases
  • Speaking in front of others is always been my problem, I always read my powerpoint line by line when I present and cannot articulate additional information that were not listed in the presentation
  • At numerous occasions, I've been tasked to relate with Excel Spreadsheets but don't have any knowledge of using it
  • I went to school and learned English but I cannot express myself conversationally like other English speakers, however I can write my ideas well
  • I have been living in the United States for few years but still cannot speak English well, I have also attended many ESL classes at various centers
  • I am new in the area and working for a technology company, however my English is very limited

What can you do?
For someone who experienced any of the above listed 'facts', that were frustrating conversational issues, difficulties of demonstrating communicative efficiency with team members, co-workers, with friends and acquaintances. It is highly suggested to give oneself a new personal development and gain better competency, achieve more progress in the near future and be BOLD.

It is also a fact, that there are many (individuals or organizations) that discriminate those who do not communicate well. "Many hear the sound of enunciated words and phrases influenced heavily by the mother tongue instead of listening to the meaningful essence of what is being communicated." - said  J. Terrenal.

To remedy those challenges, learn the real Conversational English Competency through the help of an experienced Coach in Communication, Linguistics, Business and Leadership. This type of Coach integrates the whole self of the learner's backgrounds, difficulties and future endeavors for success.

We like to hear your experiences and thoughts. Please share them to us and we always appreciate your inputs. Thank you.

In many aspects, speakers of other languages can learn English easily specially when the Trainer or Coach will provide effective and useful learning strategies that will make them talk. When someone who enrolled in ESL for Adults has been in the same school and learning English for the last 6 Months or longer - there is a big problem with the techniques used in teaching the adults students. There are many ways to teach English specifically Conversationally focused English as a Second Language for Adults. Experienced trainers and coaches of adults students have the competencies of demonstrating essential skills to make these learners talk in English.

Selling Oneself during Conversations and Interviews

As candidate for a specific position, you must know your abilities. Be confident that you bring your technical skills and professional competencies to the employer’s business. When given that chance and moment, you will take advantage of the situation and discuss the problems and challenges they were facing but not to inquire about jobs, and show them your enthusiasm to bring in additional revenue through your effectiveness. This scenario will turn into your favor as a candidate. In addition, knowing what is outside the interviewing room is equally crucial piece of information for making your personal or professional decision to join the organization. You have the right to inquire in equal footing to their right of screening you.

Candidates must NOT work with recruiters or representatives with bad practices:
Your goal as a candidate is to screen out those organizations that do not demonstrate good recruitment and hiring practices. Be watchful of common bad practices; such as oftentimes requested an updated resume but never get any follow up from the Requester. Nor they send any acknowledgement, or communicate back with candidates after initial conversations. They do not send a feedback of the status of the application. They send a reply to candidates after 3 months from date of application. Conducted an interview either by phone or in person, but did not send any updates beyond ten days. All of these common bad practices within the recruitment and staffing arena are giving a bad name to the industry where real professionals do their work at best. Create a database of people you have spoken with regards to jobs and do not communicate with them again if they do not practice good business and communication. They are not a good source of information about opportunities.

Make your competencies as your assets:
Your competencies will demonstrate your abilities to do the job. Having the proficiency in speaking and conversationally engage with the Interviewing Team or Panel, this will open the doors of opportunity for you.

Highlight your technical skills, illustrate through effective conversations your proficiency in communicating about your ideas and abilities to perform the job.

Create your portfolio that will speak about yourself and discuss strongly how you can solve many of the issues that the company are going through. Put currency value to your efforts and business plan. Present that ROI and they will extend you an offer letter without blinking. Must illustrate your capabilities as validated by experiences that were undeniably effective with ROI and results-driven.

Have your References talk and discuss about your qualities as an individual, a team partner, leader, or part of an effective team. However, be mindful do not give your List of References to a recruiter to contact until you have a face to face interview and been extended a verbal offer.

Do you have difficulties with persuasive conversations?
The American Coaches of Ideas N Conversations can help you develop and advance your interviewing skills and become conversationally savvy. Your proficiency to articulate your skills and competencies will influence the hiring decision.

If you like to get Hired contact +1 (650) 241-3207 and discuss your difficulties and learn many ways to become effective during the interviewing process. If you help yourself you will get what you like to have and others do not give you that unless you can demonstrate.

We like to hear about your experiences. Email us at info@ideasnconversations.com

Leading a team but cannot articulate thoughts and ideas - Leadership Blunder

As a team leader, responsibilities cover management of people, the team's organization, efficiency of communication, processes, services, other business activities, results and must be in line with overall objectives of the business.

Let’s look at Michael’s experiences, who was a new Team Manager at his fast growing organization. He was recently promoted to his new role from his engineering role for the last seven years. He gained expertise in his role, demonstrated essential knowledge competencies and delivered magnificent accomplishments in performing his job. He was promoted to lead seven people with ranges of experiences from 6 months to 5 years.

In the early days of his role, it was exciting; he was having a blast, enjoying all the perks that came with it. He started planning for his vacation when he completed his first year. However, there are some things that were bothering him.

Credits: IdeasN, Microsoft.com

Michael was reflecting some of the situations that have occurred:
1. In his first day, he met with his team members. He was very confident in getting to know them, clarifying their roles and responsibilities. However, he was very nervous and felt short in explaining all the things that he wanted to accomplish. He cannot find the right words in articulating his thoughts. He decided to postpone the sharing of other information. However, as soon as he got into his office, he sent an email to his team enumerating what he wanted to share with them. He did this because of his inability to articulate his ideas when speaking.

2. During the meeting with his co-managers, he was unable to discuss and tell the entire story about his team's activities and members because the words that he wanted to use cannot be articulated. He struggled to verbalize his thoughts in front of his co-managers. He was frustrated and was very embarrassed. Others told him “don’t worry, we understand what you meant! English is not your first language.”  He believed that his inability to speak will create some issues eventually.

3. A member of his team brought to his attention an escalating issue with a customer. When speaking with customers over the telephone, he was getting frustrated for his inability to verbally express the best options that the customers can take. Instead, he was giving polite excuses by telling customers that he will email more detailed information.  Michael was finding it more and more challenging to communicate effectively.

4. Michael was meeting with four other management colleagues after work hours. He was excited about joining them as he can do bonding with them. He enjoyed their company, learning more about their thoughts and practices. But when it comes to sharing about his interests and passion such as travels, outdoor activities, and other social functions. He was limited with words. He felt embarrassed with management peers but he claimed that he was more confident in talking things with his personal friends.

What factors have contributed to the issues of Michael?

1. He lacks adequate business vocabulary and phrases to support his  ideas in front of his team

2. He lacks verbal and speaking competencies or  proficiency that will articulate his business and personal ideas
3. He lacks speaking communication skills that will make him more credible towards customers and management peers
4. He lacks conversational skills that will support his thoughts, ideas and opinions during small talks with business colleagues, peers and new acquaintances.
5. His organization did not prepare him for advance management role, nor trained him to become a team manager

What steps that Michael can do?
Because Michael is leading a team of people. He will need to acquire knowledge and skills through a program called "Advanced Business English for Effective Communication". This will give him the opportunity to develop adequate proficiency in both business leadership and communication skills. Many of the issues he faced are covered in this program; such as increasing functional vocabulary, learning techniques in conducting situational scenarios, communicative skills development, increase verbal customer relations skills, ability to talk with new acquaintances in small talks topics and ability to conduct himself as a more professional as a real manager during business meetings within or outside his organization.

Speaking with an experienced leadership trainer and coach at Ideas N Conversations will identify the real cause of his issues. The free assessment which Ideas N Conversations use in determining those difficulties will allow them to create a suitable and customized program that will eliminate his difficulties. He can use these new learning immediately after each session.

Why do organizations need to step up?
In order for the organization to become successful with their business goals. They need to assess ahead of time the capabilities of their employees. One important role is to prepare talented employees to become team leaders, show them the  ropes in leading, their responsibilities, mentoring them before they will assume the role as a full time people manager.

These are issues within many organizations. They do not invest on their people because their focus is an immediate return of revenues. When you look at the overall performance of employees, many do not meet all expected results because of inefficiencies and lack of skills, knowledge and 'know hows'.

Unique Differences between Advanced Business English and Business English

Are there differences between Advanced Business English and Business English?

Yes, there are...

Competencies in Business English are acquired by adult English speakers through experiential immersion, assimilation and practice with contextual relevance of ideas, utterances and their meanings. In this globalized business environment, English competence has become a critical skill of an individual for competitiveness within enterprises.

First, a Business English is a specialized form of the English language that illustrates functional norms of the language that relate to different businesses. In basic context, this language form generally use common business terminologies, phrases, statements and utterances that are business in nature. Employees that work in different businesses use basic business English language to portray their ideas, opinions, and experiences. Their referential use was based from either their personal family unit, they acquired from school, or from social interactions among English speakers. Many English speakers regardless of their locations struggle to demonstrate proficiency or skill in Business English. This is because the English classes they learned in school were not focused in the skills development and practice of using English within the business environment.

Second, an Advanced Business English is specially focused to a more complex use of Business English within growing, medium size or large organizations. This incorporates functional areas of businesses and action oriented results. This type of English within the business environment is required to illustrate effective communicative competence in either verbal or written. The psycho-socio-linguistic characteristics of the Advanced Business English must be demonstrated immensely among speakers because proficiency supports credibility. With strong acumen in communicating your ideas verbally, this means possibilities for advancement is open-ended.

When you  have experienced the lack of these competencies and skills, you can contact Ideas N Conversations to discuss and explore the appropriate program for you. Their expert will conduct an assessment of your current weaknesses and strengths.

Customized lessons will be based on your 'Identified Difficulties', depending on your preferred learning style modular lessons are either one-on-one coaching or in clusters and the trainer will travel to your location.

As always, we like to hear about your insights, suggestions and or comments.  To learn more additional information, please call +1 (650) 241-3207.
